“The names comes from a Joy Division’s song, and it instantly connects us to a certain 80s music scene” – that’s how Federico Capalbo, the italian designer behind the London based brand, introduced us KOMAKINO during the conversation we had in his Paris showroom. This strong subculture influence sets the mood for every season’s collection: to design a label for outsiders is one of the aim the designer pointed to while chatting. The choice of London as the background for the brand has something to deal with in the way he sees things also, being the city the perfect mind set for rebels – “It’s still the city where you can go and see lot of gigs”. Talking about the collection, Komakino is always split in two parts: a more sartorial and tailoring one, more minimal and defined in details, is combined with a ‘street’ section, ‘loud’ in terms of colors and cuts. As an anticipation for next Spring/Summer 2015, Japanese cyberpunk scene has been taken as reference, and neon contrasting colors as flashes of lights appears on garments.
“If you like it, you wear it”: that’s the hyper-clear motto the designer concluded the interview with.
