During last Women’s Paris Fashion Week, we had a conversation with Jonny Cota, Skingraft‘s designer and 29-year-old San Francisco Bay native now L.A. based rad guy. We asked him to define his aesthetic vision, what he likes and what inspires him, and he really wants to stress the dark and otherworldly attitude he aims to while creating Skingraft – he appreciates unexpected, unconventional and not necessarily reasonable things: ‘Oh, it’s from another planet!’ he highlighted during our talk.
For Fall/Winter 2014-2015 men’s and women’s Skingraft collections, now available both to pre-order, Jonny Cota started thinking about a future ice age, and how people could survive extreme climate changes. He took then inspiration from Mongolian, Siberian and other arctic cultures and recreated their specific silhouettes, but not missing to filter these through his brand dna: youth, street and goth contaminations appear on dark and strong volumes.
At the end, we asked Jonny if he has a muse, a figure that keeps on inspiring him – once again the mysterious side came off: an alien, a girl or a boy he finds and he fells like: ‘Who are you?’.
