MCQUEEN SS14

Inside Garde Républicaine, during one of last Paris Fashion Week evenings, Sara Burton’s clan walked down a geometric sand squared runway, clearly reminding of Piet Mondrian’s early works, and giving us the clear feeling of being included in a kind of tribal dancers’ evocation. All primped in Amazon-like golden metallic helmets and black eyebrows and hair, the collection and the atmosphere was all about darkness and constriction: bandaged with leather belts across the chest and with plenty of brass armlets piled on wrists and up the entire arms, the models looked pretty similar to priestesses.
Alexander McQueen’s Scottish roots, further the Celtic warrior inspiration, were clearly recalled by the kilts worn over leggings and pants, while the ethnic shades were stressed in the intricate and fetish outfits, the graphic checkerboard beadings, and the massive use of ostrich feathers.
