The Givenchy show is undoubtedly one of the season’s most important, not only from the outstanding collections Riccardo Tisci produces, but the whole atmosphere before the clothes even hit the catwalk. A front row packed with label devotees including Kim Kadashian & Kanye West, Sky Ferreira, Frank Ocean and the fashion heavy weights including Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld were all calmly sat, waiting to see what the cult designer had in store for us this season. Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons wrote an ode to feminism as a note for the show before he stepped up on stage with a full orchestra to perform as the models started to take to the runway. Taking strong elements from past collections but adding a directional new touch in the form of bright prints that emblazoned tapered skirts and the label’s must have sweaters, the collection was new and exciting to watch. Sheer layers with beautiful applique and amazing prints in plaid, floral and firey colors made a strong statement and made sure that the collection made it’s mark on the season. It was also a testament to Tisci’s skill as he continues to push forward with his strong aesthetic that has defined many elements in the way modern women dress and, evidently, will continue to do so.
